Заинтересовавшись текстуальной историей Септуагинты проф. Себастьян Брок столкнулся с важными неопубликованными текстами на сирийском языке, что побудило его к исследованию различных областей сирийской литературы, в частности, переводов с греческого и истории техники перевода, диалогов и нарративных поэм, агиографии, литургических текстов и монашеской литературы.
В настоящее время проф. Себастьян Брок занимается изданием неопубликованных сирийских текстов, исследованием места греческих слов в сирийском языке, диахронными аспектами сирийского словообразования, сирийской диалоговой поэзией.
Себастьян Брок является членом Британской академии, был удостоен почетной степеней доктора богословия различных университетов, Сирийским православным Патриархом награжден медалью св. Ефрема Сирина. Жена Себастьяна Брока Хелен Хьюс-Брок - археолог, специалист по Минойскому Криту и Микенской Греции.
