On August 11, 2012, the birthday of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk, administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, at St. Nicholas’s Church in New York.
After the service, there will be a solemn ceremony in which the old banner of the Brotherhood of the Nativity of the Mother of God, founded at the cathedral in the beginning of the last century by Archbishop Tikhon of North America, the future Patriarch of All Russia, will be handed over to St. Nicholas’s.
As it turned out, this object, which was considered to be lost, has been kept for many decades in the church of the Nativity of the Mother of God at the St. Vladimir Cemetery in New Jersey (Orthodox Church in America). At the request of Archbishop Justinian and with the blessing of Bishop Michael of New York and New Jersey, the rector of the church, Archpriest John Prokoliuk, and his parishioners, will hand the banner over to St. Nicholas’s, reports the website of the Russian Orthodox Church in the USA.
