Краткая биографическая справка:

Профессор Гарвардской богословской школы. Специалист в области изучения роли религии в современном обществе.

Родился в 1946 г. Имеет три магистерские степени - Concordia Senior College, Concordia Seminary и Йельского университета.

В Йеле Тиманн защитил также докторскую диссертацию (PhD). Тема диссертации: "A Conflict of Perspectives: the Debate between Karl Barth and Werner Elert".

Являлся профессором Haverford College. В 1986 г. перешел на работу в Гарвард, где в период 1986-1998 гг. руководил Гарвардской богословской школой.

Известен благодаря книгам Revelation and Theology: The Gospel as Narrated Promise, Constructing a Public Theology: The Church in a Pluralistic Culture и Religion in Public Life: A Dilemma for Democracy.

В настоящее время работает над книжным проектом "Узники совести: литераторы как социальные критики".

Является почетным доктором Wabash College (Индиана, США) и Trinity Seminary (Огайо, США).

Является лютеранским пастором. С 2010 работает Лютерано-Католической международной комиссии.
