Israeli president to attend opening of Jewish Museum, Tolerance Centre in Moscow

Moscow, November 7, Interfax - A Jewish museum and a Tolerance Centre will open on the premises of the Moscow Bakhmetyevsky Garage on November 8 in the attendance of Israeli President Shimon Peres, museum press secretary Olga Zhuravlyova told Interfax.



"The goal of this museum is to offer a creative and interactive platform for inter-cultural dialogue," she said.



"The museum organizers wished not only to visualize the everyday life and culture of Jews but also to present the history of Russia through the prism of one of its peoples. The museum takes a multi-dimensional look at the key events of national history - the Revolution, the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War," Zhuravlyova said.



The Jewish Museum and the Tolerance Centre will occupy an area of over 8,500 square meters. There will be permanent and temporary exhibitions, a library, a museum shop, a research Centre, conference halls, a children's Centre and a kosher cafe.



"The Jewish Museum and the Tolerance Centre will be an innovative cultural Centre of the capital city and a new architectural, historical, educational, museum and technological facility of Moscow," she said.
